Samsung captured HARMAN International in 2017, this is intended to look at its caliber in the automobile and audio market. Now, the company is stretching its presence in the automobile sector. While recently Volkswagen Group has revealed that it has created an app store for all of its cars in collaboration with Harman.
It is worth noting that Volkswagon Group is the world’s second-largest car maker. And is focused on designing the unified software stack for all the cars under its brand hood. It comprises the brands like Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, Seat, Skoda, and Volkswagen. Also, this software platform will govern the company’s vehicles for years to come. Therefore, relying on Android Automotive OS, the software platform will run on the company’s in-car infotainment system, duly called One.Infotainment. While the official platform has been developed in a merger with Samsung Electronics subsidiary Harman.
Volkswagen’s new software platform brings multiple apps
Therefore, jointly Volkswagen’s new software platform brings various apps, that comprise EV charging, gaming, music and podcast streaming, news, parking, smart home integration, social media, video conferencing, weather, and more. Also, the first set of apps on the store comprises Amazon Music, Spotify, The Weather Channel, Tidal Music, TikTok, Vivaldi, and Yelp. Whereas, these apps will reportedly be designed with UX that’s safe for car use. On the other hand, the Volkswagen Group is also in talks with Google in order to bring native Google Maps navigation.
Moving forward, the new app store will be released first to Audi and Volkswagen cars. The list further extends to models from Bentley, Lamborghini, and Porsche. Notably, the same will going to debut first in Audi’s 2023 lineup. It includes the A4/A5, Q5, A6/A7, A8, and Q8 E-Tron, in Canada, Europe, and Mexico this summer. Audi Q6 E-Tron and Porsche Macan will also tend to receive the new platform alongside enhanced driver assistance.
Dirk Hilgenberg, the CEO of Cariad, VW Group’s in-house software division, said, “It’s a new level of digital experiences we want to show. With regard to third-party app companies, “We can combine and leverage with each other creating an immersive experience, especially as far as gaming, relaxing is concerned.“
