A key element of feeling safer and more private online is having greater control over where their sensitive, personally-identifiable information can be found. That’s why we’re introducing a new tool in Google Search to help you easily control whether your personally identifiable information can be found in Search results, so you can have more peace of mind about your online footprint.
Google’s new “Results about you” tool
As of nowadays, opening the Google app on Android and tapping your profile avatar in the top-right corner reveals a new “Results about you” menu item. The process can be quite lengthy and might require information like credit card info and social security to be available in Search results.
Google has already added functionality by allowing users to remove phone numbers, email addresses, and physical addresses. With Google’s new “Results about you” tool, people get easier access to this request feature. While browsing if you find something then click on the tree dots overflow menu that appears in the top-right corner of each result.
Soon after the steps, you can monitor the progress of your removable Results. In addition to an “All requests” feed, you have filters like “In progress” and “Approved.” This page also lets you make a new request with a rehearsal that embraces a “Why would you like to clear this result?” step. Options comprise:
- It shows my personal contact info
- It shows my contact with an intent to harm me
- It shows other personal info
- It contains illegal info
- It’s outdated
Expectingly, the new feature will soon be down in the coming months. The company has previously explained the strategy of serving the feature appearing for the first users as according to Europe and the US, but this isn’t been widely rolled out so far.
