According to the latest report from ZDNet Korea, Samsung is all set to start the prototype trial production (MPW (multi-project wafer) of its Mach-1 AI chip to combat NVIDIA and its arch-rival in the HBM segment, SK hynix.
It is expected to be based on Samsung’s own 4nm. Craftsmanship. The industry insider also said that the possibility of Mach-1 using a 5nm process cannot be ruled out.
Earlier, Kyung Kye-hyun, head of Samsung’s semiconductor business revealed that the company plans to launch its very own AI chip soon, called the Mach-1 with the sole aim of standing out in the markets and giving tough competition to the likes of SK Hynix & Micron while disrupting NVIDIA’s AI dominance.
Samsung has set a timetable for Mach-1 : mass production in the second half of this year, delivery of the chip by the end of this year, and delivery of inference servers based on the chip in the first quarter of next year.
At the same time, Samsung has also obtained pre-orders from Naver of up to 1 trillion won.
Samsung already started recruitment for the development of Mach-1: Externally, Samsung announced 8 job openings related to this chip in April.
