Samsung has now announced its first 3nm chip. The design process leveraged artificial intelligence (AI) tools developed by Synopsys.
Samsung’s first 3nm mobile processor was designed with artificial intelligence
Samsung announced this development together with Synopsys and showed how much artificial intelligence can simplify the processor design process. At every step of the design process, from architectural planning to physical implementation and verification, these tasks were delegated to machine learning algorithms instead of human engineers.
Synopsys’ AI-based toolset, Synopsys.ai, includes AI wizards for chip design, functional verification and silicon testing.
For this new mobile processor from Samsung, AI controlled everything from layout to optimization. Thanks to Synopsys’ Fusion Compiler software, Samsung’s team was spared weeks of tedious manual work. Thanks to AI-powered techniques, this 3nm SoC achieved a CPU frequency increase of 300MHz and a 10 percent reduction in dynamic power consumption. This result is quite impressive for a chip designed by artificial intelligence.
