Samsung has equipped the Lamm-Lichtspiele Erlangen, the fifth cinema in Germany, with a Samsung Onyx Cinema LED display.
The Lamm-Lichtspiele is the oldest operating cinema in Erlangen. The first performance took place there in 1919. With the introduction of Samsung Onyx, the arthouse cinema is relying on “state-of-the-art” technology and proving that tradition and progress are by no means mutually exclusive.
“We are pleased that we were able to convince another German cinema of our Onyx technology with the Lamm-Lichtspiele. Our goal is to be able to meet the growing expectations and demands of viewers for picture quality in the cinema, so that a visit there remains a real experience despite advancing TV technology and streaming services,” says Steven Pollok, Director Display Division at Samsung.
The Onyx Cinema LED display delivers sharp images: The black appears particularly deep on Onyx, without any annoying reflections. Conversely, the LED display shines in pure white and with a luminosity of up to 500 Nit 2 or 146 fL (Foot Lambert) is ten times brighter than most conventional cinema projectors with 48 Nit.
The HDR image of the Cinema LED display is made up of 6.6 million light-emitting diodes, which create 2.2 million pixels and all of them light up themselves.
“As an arthouse cinema, it is particularly important to us to present our guests with exclusive experiences and impressions that are outside the norm. We are very pleased that we can now present our films in this brilliant quality with the Samsung Onyx Cinema LED display,” said Elisa Coburger and Peter Zwingmann, managing directors of the Lamm-Lichtspiele. “We are proud to have brought the cinema of the future to Erlangen.”
