The South Korean tech giant Samsung filed a patent application that shows an innovative smartphone design integrated with a sliding phone, enabling touch inputs to be registered from the back surface.
The technology is now moving forward towards the slidable phones. These devices will feature a retractable screen that extends when needed. Now, Samsung wants to make one-handed usage more convenient with this slidable smartphone.
To achieve this objective, Samsung has designed a rear panel that can read touch inputs. Users will be able to control various functions on the extended screen through features located on the back panel. By tapping, pressing, and dragging on the rear surface of the phone, users can execute desired functions. The patent documents also indicate that Samsung intends to include a “Rear touch function” setting, allowing users to enable or disable the rear inputs.
- Tap – Execute function
- Tap and drag – Move the object
- Double tap and long press – Select the object
- Double tap and press, and drag – Scroll the screen
- Double tap – Enter into the first mode
However, a slidable or rollable smartphone will take time to debut. Stay tuned for more.
