Samsung to produce OLED screens for iPhone 15 series in May 2023

OLED screens

According to the TheElec report, Samsung Display is all set to mass-produce Apple iPhone 15 OLED from May this year. The date will be somewhere around Mid-May 2023.

Initially, Samsung Display and LG Display together planned to mass-produce iPhone 15 series OLEDs in June, but the schedule for mass-production of OLEDs for the general model was advanced due to OLED production disruptions at BOE in China.

In the iPhone 15 series, which consists of a total of four types, low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistors (TFT) are applied to the general and plus models, which are sub-lineups. The Pro and Pro Max models, which are the upper lineup of the iPhone 15 series, apply low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) TFT, which is highly technically difficult. The TFT acts as an OLED pixel switch.

Meanwhile, the upcoming Apple iPhone 15 models are going to adopt the USB-C port, we will see some design changes that are exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. iPhone 15 Pro models will feature thinner, more curved bezels than the iPhone 14 Pro models.
