Samsung to produce Qualcomm flagship mobile SoC

Samsung Electronics Foundry Business Unit will going to make some of Qualcomm’s flagship application processors.

As per foreign media outlets, one of the great revelations came to light. And as per the same Samsung Electronics Foundry Business Unit will going to make some of Qualcomm flagship application processors. This is nothing but Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for its own next-generation phones.

It is being said that TSMC will be producing the traditional and regular versions of Qualcomm’s latest chipset. While the Samsung Foundry will start making the overclocked variant of the SoC with respect to its upcoming flagship which is Galaxy S23 series.

According to the quoted news, the Twitter tipster RGcloudS says that there going to be two versions of the chipset. Out of the two, version AB is made by Samsung by using its 4 nm LPE process. And the AC variant is made by TSMC using its N4P process node.

In addition to the news, in regard to Galaxy S22 then Samsung used its own Exynos 2200 chips almost everywhere except the United States, Canada, and China. Therefore, the units sold in these three countries, it is packed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. These are designed by the Samsung System LSI division.

Whereas for the Galaxy S23 series, the South Korean tech giant is expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 worldwide. As a result, Qualcomm will associate with Samsung for the manufacturing of the chipset. It is to be used for the Galaxy flagship phones.

Qualcomm partnered with TSMC

Also, industry insiders are observing and paying attention to Qualcomm’s steps toward Samsung Electronics for foundry services. Earlier also some sources depicted that Qualcomm partnered with TSMC in order to produce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. As Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 produces by Samsung Electronics Foundry Units 4nm process doesn’t match Qualcomm’s expectations.

Also as per the industry insiders, Qualcomm’s order will bring an opportunity for Samsung Electronics in order to retain its lost customers such as Nvidia and IBM.

On the other hand, Samsung Electronics is also showing strong confidence in improving the yield of its 5nm or advanced process. Notably, the Korean chipmaker succeeded in bulk-making 3 nm chips ahead of TSMC. And at the same time, securing customers in next-generation foundry processes.
