Foldable phones are making their debut a few times back but still, they succeed in making their place in people’s minds. Although, there are several companies that don’t have their foldable range yet despite their good presence in the market. One of the same kind is Apple iPhone, which left its users in the dark. As Apple has yet to come up with a foldable range. However, it could eventually happen as news coming from various sources suggests that it might arrive in 2023. Well, the news for the folding iPhone is not enough for someone who felt so strongly about a foldable iPhone that they decided to make their own.
This foldable iPhone project came into highlight from the YouTube channel 科技美学. As they are able to manage an iPhone, deconstruct it, and then reassemble the same into a foldable variant. Although, this task is probably not the simple enough as they sound. Since it requires a lot of trial and error in order to get it done right. And therefore, the most complex part is taking the existing OLED display, stripping down the important layers, and bringing one that could come into use for the project. Believe it or not, this process took five months for this process to make this process executable.
Motorola Raz behind the scene
Also, because the Youtube channel wasn’t able to make everything from scratch. Therefore, they have their dependency on parts from famous the Motorola Razr. They experimented with the Galaxy Z Flip which offered great dimensions. But simultaneously, their hinge posed a problem. On the other hand, Motorola Razr became one of the prime candidates for the project, as their hinge supports the iPhone’s folded display.
Additionally, careful planning was required to get the motherboard and other essential parts to get fitted in the new case. This case is created using a 3D printer, when all assembling is done, the parts are mated together to form an iPhone that could fold. Surprisingly, the phone could be powered up and fully functional. But because the OS was never intended for such configuration. It required apps that look more natural in folded position respectively.
Certainly, it might not look that polished in terms of fit and finish, something that you would opt for directly from Apple. But it gives a tentative idea of what a foldable iphone would seem like. In conclusion, I would only like to add that, we’ll simply be content with the iphone 14 lineup for now. And hope that the foldable iPhone is part of next year’s iPhone 15 lineup.
