MediaTek’s Dimensity 1080 with upgraded camera [200MP] support to budget phones

The MediaTek Dimensity 1080 is here, and it has built on the company's Dimensity 920 released last year.

Due to the consistent demand for smartphones and also this industry grows day by day. There’s a huge offering from the OEMs in terms of features among budgeted phones as well. Companies tend to provide a very nice hardware configuration in low to mid-segments. Therefore, there’s a probability of getting a MediaTek chipset in mid-range smartphones as well these days. The firm has been pushing out certain top-end chipsets across the whole product line. And the same has been increasing gradually. Adding to this, the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 is here and it has built on the company’s Dimensity 920 released last year.

Additionally, the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 is built on TSMC’s N6 6nm manufacturing node. It offers various key improvements to the existing Dimensity 920. It consists of an octa-core CPU with two ARM Cortex-A78 cores that clocked up to 2.6GHz and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 2GHz. While its GPU is an Arm Mali G68. Alongside, it also braces with LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage modules. Apart from this, its Image Signal Processor (ISP) holds up to 4K HDR video encoding, quad camera concurrency and up to 200MP image capture with zero shutter lag.

MediaTek is achieving a legacy in terms of power optimisation and performance. And thus its Dimensity 1080 featured a complete suite of advanced attributes that challenge expectations about what a 5G smartphone can do, said CH Chen, Deputy General Manager of the Wireless Communications Business Unit at MediaTek.

“This new chipset is designed to further enhance many of the functions that made its predecessor great, including processing power, camera and video quality, and time to market for manufacturers.”

As per MediaTek, smartphones powered by the 5G SoC will be going to avail from Q4 of 2022. It also discloses that the chipset stakes some of the hardware and software to those of Dimensity 920. Therefore, the companies can stabilise their time to market with this chip. While the biggest alterations are clock speed and simultaneous improvements to the ISP. This chipset will hence prove to be a nice impact on performance for mid-range smartphones that are going to launch at the end of this year.
