Samsung may ship 8 million units of new foldable phone this year

According to the latest report, Samsung plans to ship 8 million units of the new foldable phones by the end of the year. Looking at the current demand for the new Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 which recently broke the pre-order records are expected to grab this milestone.

If the achievable target will come close then the shipment will increase up to 13% higher as compared to the previous year.

Recently, Samsung planned to ship nearly 15 million units but now it seems to be slowing down. Noh Geun-chang, a Korea-based analyst and head of technology research at HMC Investment & Securities, said this at the KPCA Show 2022 Symposium held at Songdo Convensia in Incheon on the 21st and during the Q&A session. The KPCA Show is an annual exhibition of the Korea PCB & Semiconductor Packaging Industry Association (KPCA).

“From a conservative point of view, Samsung Electronics’ foldable phone shipments this year are expected to be 10 million units”. (Past models such as the Z Fold 3) shipments are expected to be 2 million units.”

“Samsung foldable phone is expected to ship 5.5 million units in the third quarter,” said Noh, head of the center. “It is possible to ship 10 million foldable phones annually.” At the beginning of last month, Roh Tae-moon, head of Samsung Electronics’ smartphone business division, announced at Galaxy Unpacked that it would sell more than 10 million foldable phones this year.

“Similarly, from a conservative perspective, Samsung Electronics’ foldable phone shipments are expected to be 15 million units next year,” he said. He added, “It is likely that the shipment of 10 million new foldable phones will be possible only next year.”

At the same time, Center Director Noh predicted Samsung Electronics’ smartphone shipments this year to be 269.1 million units. This is 0.9% lower than last year (271.6 million units).
