Reportedly, SEGYUNG HITECH, which is in the Optical and Deco Film business, is the supplier of Samsung Electronics for its Foldable phones. The company has a business portfolio in LCD and mobile tape and further extends to Optical and Deco Film ventures also.
Galaxy Fold to Galaxy Z fold 4 & Flip 4
Segyung starts to supply the special protection film from the 1st generation Samsung foldable model back in 2019, and continues to supply this fourth year also to its Foldable range of phones which is Galaxy Z fold 4 and Flip 4, whose official unpacked events have been scheduled on 10 August. The unveiled information was released in an official press note by Samsung recently.
It also delivered a special protective film that is used in foldable phone panels to Samsung Display exclusively. To be noted, the panel supply by segyung is further sold to Chinese smartphone makers by Samsung. Shipment of foldable protective film to a big giant such as Samsung Electronics is definitely going to increase the performance of Sekyung High-Tech.
It has also been said that Segyung Hitech was found to be the sole supplier of Special Protective films for Foldable phones Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 respectively.
What is Special Protective Film
Basically, a Special Protective film is a component which is attached to the ultra new glass (UTG), and which is likely to act as a cover window of the Foldable phone display. It protects the display from external agents.
The main function of Special Protective film are as follows:
- It protects the cover window from external shocks,
- Supports anti-fingerprint and
- Touch enhancement functions.
Polyimide (PI) Film
As Segyung Hi-tech has continuously delivered special protective films only to Samsung for the last 4 years. The first generation, the Galaxy Fold model used a transparent polyimide (PI) film as the cover window of the phone display.
UTG material Film
The company starts using UTG material cover windows from the second generation foldable model in the year 2020.
It is predicted that Segyung High-Tech’s performance will be influenced by the special protective film for the Samsung foldable phone cover window in the second half of the year.
However, Samsung’s Galaxy Z fold 4 and Z Flip 4 have a shipment target of 15 million units this year. While the predecessors Z fold 3 and Z Flip 3 have shipments of 71 million units by the end of last year, thus there’s a huge gap between both the two phone’s shipment targets, although it can be revised anytime by Samsung.
Sales and Revenue
In terms of sales, the Segyung High-Tech Optical films (special protective films) were 115 billion earned last year, up to 43% of the total sales (2683 billion won). Whereas the share of optical films in total sales is increasing by 21% in 2019, 41% in 2020, and 43% in 2021 respectively.
