Ultra-thin bendable ecosystem: Samsung and Corning goal

Corning is working on an ultra-thin, bendable glass ecosystem in Asan, South Chungcheong Province. The entire glass manufacturing process will proceed here only. The company has recently announced a five-year, $1.5 billion (approximately 2 trillion won) investment in April.

On September 01, 2023, Corning held a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of investment in Korea at Corning Precision Materials in Asan, South Chungcheong Province.

Ultra-thin bendable glass is the future of technology

Corning supplied its VTG (variable thickness glass) for the latest Samsung foldable devices – Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5. It was designed for the foldable panel.

“Korea will become a manufacturing hub for ultra-thin bendable glass,” said Wendell P. Wicks, Chairman and CEO of Corning. “Thanks to Korea’s commitment to advanced technology-led growth, excellent human resources, and government support, we will be able to expand our capabilities like Samsung.” “We were able to accelerate our cooperation with our valuable customers and partners in Korea.”

Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong said, “Collaboration with Corning has become a strong stepping stone for Samsung to leap forward as a global company.” He added, “Based on trust and cooperation, Samsung and Corning have created technology that does not exist in the world technology that no one can imagine helping humanity.” “Let’s create technology that works together,” he said.
