The Weather Widget on Android Auto’s new Coolwalk Redesign making its way for Return

Google started to roll out the “Coolwalk” Android Auto redesign earlier this year. This has been depicting the split screen view on the user’s dashboards. Sadly, with that rollout, Android Auto lost the always helpful weather widget on smaller displays. Alternatively, the lately found source code reveals that it may be coming back.

The report was presented by 9to5Google after Reddit user u/shmykelsa revealed the changes in the code a few days back. In tandem, this is the same user that first uncovers the Coolwalk design prior to it being widely rolled out.

In particular, the weather card or widget was a portion of an older version of Android Auto. But it has been readded and then removed again later. Whereas, only on displays it doesn’t meet resolution criteria to some extent.

The card’s function, apart from displaying the weather, is stretch to give you a readout of weather conditions when tapped. The functionality proves to be very useful, especially if someone is in the middle of their driving. Also, can’t take off their eyes from the road.

The same functionality is presently available only on one weather app. This app is conveniently compatible with Android Auto, which is WeatherRadar. Also, The Weather Channel tends to be there in the coming future. Apart from this, unless you have a car with a big display head unit, you certainly be the out of luck.

Google is looking to enable the weather card

Although, as per the code found that similar to a new inactive flag. Google is seeking an opportunity to enable the weather card on all screen sizes. Since forcefully enabling the flag doesn’t produce any results. It is also not known if the widget will be decreased in size in order to accommodate the smaller space.

Meanwhile, Google has not officially disclosed when would be the weather icon will be brought back to Android Auto’s Coolwalk redesign. Although, the fact that Google is considering doing it, is considered a positive sign for users. Especially those, who tend to miss being able to see or listen to the weather at a glance while driving.
