Samsung developed 2 new MLCCs for EV, SDI-backed Philenergy to launch 4680 battery

Samsung Electro-Mechanics officially confirmed that the company has developed two new multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) for automotive applications – 250V, 33nF and 100V, 10microF for 125 Celsius, respectively.

These new MLCCs have the highest capacity in the industry in their voltage range and are designed for electric vehicles. The MLCCs have passed the AEC-Q200 standard and can be used in the advanced drivers’ assistance system, body and chassis of EVs as well.

Apart from the MLCCs, the Samsung SDI-backed battery equipment maker Philenergy is gearing up to launch battery equipment aimed at 4680 cylindrical batteries. Samsung has already invested 5 billion won for equity in Philenergy in 2020. Its equipment is used by Tesla, Samsung SDI, LG Energy Solution and other major cylindrical battery makers.
