Samsung Electronics and Korea Institute of Energy Technology step up for Carbon Neutrality

Reportedly, Samsung Electronics penned a business agreement with the Korea Institute of Energy Technology. This collaboration is a part of joint efforts in order to develop renewable energy technologies for “carbon neutrality.”

Whereas this agreement is part of Samsung Electronics’ efforts to implement the “New Environmental Management Strategy” revealed in September last year. Also, recognizing the need for renewable energy-related R&D in responding to climate crises and ESG activities. The South Korean giant inked an agreement intended to contribute and achieve mutually sustainable goals.

In addition to this, with this partnership, Samsung Electronics and the Korea Institute of Energy Technology will create energy mix technologies. The same utilizes a mix of several energy sources and thus implements integrated renewable energy solutions.

Notably, 20 to 40% of the energy depleted at Samsung Electronics’ business site is consumed in the form of heat. While, with the time when electrical energy is organically merged and operated, the demand and supply can be balanced. And thus it enhanced the energy efficiency of the entire business. Similarly,  Samsung Electronics and the Korea Institute of Energy Technologies plan to perform research on energy mix systems. And it boosts the utilization efficiency of renewable energy based on ‘sector coupling’ technology.

Both partners will strategically study the site-level energy mix systems. At the same time, it considers the use, scale, and layout of workplace buildings. And also the composition, capacity, and efficiency of energy systems. The company also plans to execute ‘integrated renewable energy solutions tailored to business sites’, since it results in carbon neutrality. While further expanding the long-term business sites in long term.

Kim Kyung-jin, vice president of Samsung Electronics’ Global EHS Center, said, “We look forward to securing the ability to design a high-efficiency renewable energy integrated system that suits the characteristics of each business site through joint technical cooperation with the Korea Institute of Energy Technology.”
