Samsung held a light-off campaign to save energy at domestic and global business sites

Earth Day has been celebrated by billions of people around the globe. Annually every April 22 several companies and people around the world prepare awareness for the health of our environment. In terms of Samsung’s view, during Climate Change Week, Samsung Electronics held a light-off event to save energy at domestic and global business sites.

Samsung on its 10 domestic business sites and 44 overseas corporations, including the US, Europe, China, and Southeast Asia, participated and turned off the lights for 10 minutes at 8:00 pm on the 21st and 22nd.

The energy savings expected from turning off the lights for 10 minutes at Samsung Electronics’ domestic and overseas business sites is about 3,410 kWh, which is estimated to save 1,786 KgCO2-eq when converted into greenhouse gases.

Samsung Electronics, which declared a ‘new environmental management strategy’ in September last year, plans to actively participate in climate change response by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and expanding renewable energy.

Earth Day Quick History

As per the stats, Earth Day was originally born in 1969, when a US Senator named Gaylord Nelson, witnessed the effects of a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, CA. He called to action all Americans to take a stand for the environment in 1970, and thousands of colleges and universities across the United States organized protests for a healthy, sustainable Earth. This included air pollution from factories and freeways, as well as the loss of habitats for animals and animal extinction. Because of these national rallies, the first Earth Day helped create the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species acts into law.
