Chinese lab achieves 100Gbps wireless data speed, significance for 6G

A recent report reveals the first successful wireless transmission made at a terahertz (THz) frequency level, the significant achievement is the most important component of 6G technology. 5G technology has just been in use and 6G is all in the test cycles in the process.

As per the report by the Chinese government’s Global Times, a new breakthrough achievement in this area was made by China where an institute successfully conducted a 100Gbps wireless transmission. The tests were conducted by the 25th Institute of the Second Academy of China Aerospace Science and Industry.

6G at THz frequency level

The first successful wireless transmission was made at a terahertz (THz) frequency level as the most important component of 6G technology. Since THz frequency bands can maximize the potential of large amounts of bandwidth. Which would mean much better performance. It is even expected to offer lower latency than optical fiber networks.

Yet 5G is not widely used in many parts of the world, there’s heavy reliance on fiber connectivity. But with 6G adopting THz frequency bands, the performance is expected to be at par with fiber networks. At present, fiber networks are still preferred over wireless because of faster speeds and higher data transmissions. This is also not just limited to regular internet usage but to heavy-duty stuff as well.

Expectingly a couple of years is there in the launch of 6G, may be available only in 2030. Whereas, the South Korea, another frontier in the technology space plans to launch 6G services in 2028. India also expected to launch 6G infrastructure by 2029.

Seemingly, US also reportedly held meetings with business leaders, government officials, and academics to discuss the creation of 6G standards. It appears that the US wants to be one step ahead of the competition given China’s dominance in the connectivity space. But there is still more to come in front as it will take time to lauch the 6G network technology across the world.
