How to Shoot RAW Photos Using the Camera App on the Samsung Galaxy S23

The stock Samsung Camera app has long provided the ability to capture single-frame RAW photos. You get the same capability on the Galaxy S23 series across all its four rear cameras as well.

1. Open the Camera app on the Galaxy S23.
2. Switch to the More tab and select Pro mode.
3. Tap the Settings button in the top-left corner of the viewfinder.
4. Head over to Advanced picture options > Pro mode picture format and select

How to Shoot RAW Photos Using Expert RAW on the Samsung Galaxy S23

Expert RAW is not pre-installed on the Galaxy S23 series, despite being integrated into the stock Camera app. Ensure your phone has access to the internet so that you can download it, the first time you use Expert RAW.

1. Open the Camera app on your Galaxy S23.
2. Switch to the More tab and select Expert RAW. A Galaxy Store pop-up will appear from where you can download the app.
3. Open the app and proceed to grant it the necessary permissions.
4. Tap the Settings button in the top-left corner of Expert RAW’s viewfinder.
5. From the Save Pictures option, select RAW and JPEG formats. If you only want to shoot in RAW, select a RAW format.
6. Since RAW photos are typically large, you can enable the High-efficiency RAW option to save space.

Any photo you shoot using Expert RAW on the Galaxy S23 will be saved in 12MP resolution in both JPEG and RAW formats. However, if you wish to, you can also shoot 50MP RAW photos on the phone. From the camera viewfinder, tap the 12MP icon in the Expert RAW toolbar at the top to switch to 50MP mode.

This option is only available on the S23 Ultra and not the other two models. You can also shoot regular 50MP or 200MP JPEG photos on the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

How to Edit RAW Photos Using Lightroom on the Samsung Galaxy S23

Samsung’s Expert RAW is an extremely powerful app that can help you extract the best possible performance from the various Galaxy S23 camera sensors. Coupled with the handy editing tools in Lightroom, it makes the Galaxy S23 a great alternative to a dedicated DSLR in the right hands.

Photos that is been clicked using Expert RAW do not appear in the Samsung Gallery app. Instead, you must access them directly from Expert RAW. To edit them on your phone, use the Lightroom app, which packs all the required tools to extract the most from the photos.

You must also log in to or create an Adobe account to use Lightroom. Then you can begin editing.

1. From the Expert RAW app, tap the last photo you clicked that’s visible in the bottom left corner to open the gallery.
2. Swipe to the left to scroll through all the RAW photos shot using Expert RAW. Tap on the Lightroom icon at the bottom of the gallery to launch the app.
3. Your selected photo will be imported and shown under the All Photos section. Tap on the image to start editing it.
4. Tap the Light option from the bottom tab to tweak the exposure, contrast, highlights, and shadows. Move the sliders around to make adjustments as you like.
5. The bottom bar provides access to many other handy editing tools like Effects, Optics, Geometry, and Presets.
6. Once you are done with the edits, tap the Share icon at the top and select the Save to Device option. Alternatively, you can use Export to save the edited photo in a format and resolution of your choice.

Notably, the Lightroom app is free to download whereas some of its features are locked and need you to a premium subscription. If you are already an Adobe subscriber, you can use your existing account to unlock the paid features in Lightroom. This includes cloud storage, cross-device syncing, and editing tools like healing, masking, and more.
