LG Display Begins Development of New Etching Technology for OLED

LG Display has initiated in development of a new impression technology for application to Apple IT products. It is predicted that while lineout the bottom plate of the glass substrate. The aim is to go ahead with the cutting process in combination with cell by cell basis.

Also because the panel itself is thinner than the already existing rigid OLED. Therefore, the etching and cell-by-cell cutting processes happen parallelly. This is intended to enhance production efficiency. Noticeably, Samsung Display will implement the new etching technology from the 6th generation line. But, at the same time, LG Display will apply the new technology from the 8th generation line.

As per sources, LG aims to develop new etching technology that subsequently applies to Apple’s “hybrid organic light-emitting diode (OLED).” This is with the LG Electronics Institute of Production Technology. Talking with respect to Hyrid OLED then it refers to technology that merges glass substrate underplate used in rigid OLEDs with a thin film encapsulation (TFE).

While Hybrid OLED doesn’t have a glass substrate on the top. Thus the panel probably cracks while the etching process. The bottom plate of a 0.5T (mm) thick glass substrate was into a 0.2T thick ‘ultrafine (UT) substrate. And then traverse to the next process.

Therefore, in order to prevent this to happen. The LG Display is predicted to create a technology whereby the cutting process is parallelly accomplished cell-by-cell basis during the process of etching. In the interim, the etching technology with respect to hybrid OLEDs that develop LG Display is forecasted to acquire a shape by June.

Samsung Display practice for new etching technology

On the other hand, Samsung Display practice for new etching technology that subsequently initiated with the iPad OLED. Presently, this has been under development as of now in the 6th generation line. Meanwhile, the Samsung Display’s 6th generation line is all set to go for mass production soon. While this is also speculated to utilize a new etching method.
