At CES 2022, Mobileye launched the next generation of its flagship system-on-a-chip (SoC), called the EyeQ Ultra for cars that can almost completely drive themselves. The EyeQ aims to deliver enough processing power for autonomous driving. Now, it seems like Samsung Electronics’ foundry division has finally decided to produce some quantities of the ‘EyeQ’ family, which is the flagship semiconductor of Mobileye.

Samsung Electronics currently developing advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) chips for Mobileye. The ADAS chip is a key component that is responsible for preventing front collisions, maintaining lanes, and smart cruise control functions. It is analyzed that Samsung Electronics’ automotive foundry (semiconductor consignment production) experience and technology had a positive impact.

Samsung will work on below level 5 series (7 to 28 nanometers). For your information, the Mobileye currently sells EyeQ 4/5/6 series and Ultra models. The company has already covered 70% of the chip market. It was founded in Israel in 1999 and acquired by Intel in 2017 for $15.3 billion. It was listed on the NASDAQ market in October of last year, and its current market capitalization reaches $33.4 billion.

Meanwhile, the EyeQ Ultra can go up to 176 trillion operations per second, or TOPS, to carry out artificial intelligence workloads in cars and up to 4.2 TFLOPS to handle more general-purpose processing jobs.
