ChatGPT is restricted by Samsung Electronics due to semiconductor info concern

ChatGPT topic is increasing rapidly and several industries including semiconductors are using ChatGPT as a future source, but it has some serious information leakage issues.

According to the latest information, the issue of information leakage due to ChatGPT has arisen in the DS (semiconductor) division of Samsung Electronics, which permitted the use of ChatGPT last month. It was found that some executives and employees input semiconductor-related programs into ChatGPT to solve errors or write meeting minutes by including the contents of internal meetings. In response, the company took urgent measures such as limiting the number of characters entered per question.

According to media sources such as Economist and SBS, there were 3 cases of misuse of ChatGPT within Samsung. Among the misuse cases of ChatGPT, 2 cases were related to semiconductor equipment, and the other was related to the content of the meeting.

To avoid similar issues, Samsung is formulating relevant protection measures. If similar accidents occur in the future, Samsung may follow the example of Italy and cut off the ChatGPT service. According to rumours, Samsung is considering developing Samsung’s exclusive AI service through the innovation center in the DS department

Earlier the company has also informed, that ‘Because all information entered into ChatGPT is stored on an external server, you must be careful about leakage of key company information and personal information’.

The problem comes when sensitive company information, including semiconductor technology information, is included. Once information is entered into ChatGPT, the database (DB) is transmitted and stored to an external server, and it is difficult to retrieve it.
