Samsung in Europe getting more space with the leaving of Chinese competitors

Recently, it has been observed that two of Samsung’s competitors from China are substantially leaving the Europe market. These are Oppo and OnePlus, an Oppo subsidiary. Since both Oppo and OnePlus are leaving the European market. The same starts in Germany, the UK, France, and the Netherlands (via @MaxJmb). Presumably, this radical decision will substantially give both Samsung and Apple more space in the European market.

This is much similar to the scenario of how Samsung and Apple compete for market share, leaving behind Huawei. The two tech behemoths also have rigorous competition, in order to win over Oppo and OnePlus customers in Europe. At the same, it’s a great chance for Samsung to improve its market capping pertaining to its old continent.

However, the reason behind this action of Oppo and OnePlus is still unclear. But the prediction is that the tough regulations on repairability, firmware support, and sustainability are the major reason. Since it makes the business significantly difficult for both of these Chinese brands. As it may not able to fulfill the latest pro-consumer laws imposed by the European Union.

In particular, the smartphones sold in Europe are mandated to receive at least three years of OS upgrades. The same also features replaceable batteries, as OEMs need to provide replacement batteries over a product’s lifetime. Meanwhile, Samsung already meets these EU guidelines across its product line. Whereas, several smaller OEMs seeking profitability may find it difficult to imply.
