MLCC: Samsung Electro-Mechanics supplies to Tesla is expected to increase

According to the latest information, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is looking to increase the direct supply of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) for Tesla.  As noted on March 13, 2023, Samsung is rapidly working on the MLCC and the sales of Samsung Electro-Mechanics to exceed 20% this year.

An industry insider said, “Tesla has recently set up a plan to purchase key electric vehicle parts and optimize production efficiency directly. Accordingly, the proportion of MLCCs that Samsung Electro-Mechanics directly supplies to Tesla is expected to increase.”

Earlier, Samsung Electro-Mechanics has been indirectly supplying MLCC to Tesla via makers such as Bosch and Continental, and now the new policy adding a fresh way to achieve new goals.

Recently, Samsung Electro-Mechanics officially stated that it had developed 13 types of MLCCs for automotive powertrains that can withstand high temperatures of 150℃ in 2022, following two types of MLCCs for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in 2021.

In the camera module market for Tesla vehicles, Samsung Electro-Mechanics established a two-way system with LG Innotek. Tesla earlier this month said it would build a new plant in Mexico. Currently, Tesla’s electric vehicle production capacity is about 2 million units per year.
