Samsung Foundry merged with Infineon, intended to increase Power Semiconductors

Samsung Semiconductor

Reportedly, Samsung Electronics Foundry Division will merge with Germany’s Infineon. This is the company that secured its place in the number 1 position in global power semiconductors. While it is also frozen that Infineon-designed power semiconductor products have initiated contract-making since last year. As of now, Samsung Foundry has been recognized as a worldwide competitor in high-end processors.

Remarkably, Infineon is the world’s No 1 certified power semiconductor company. While this association is supposed to be a stepping channel for Samsung Foundry in order to securely process and produce determinations in the segment of power semiconductors. Also, as a part of this, Chairman Lee Jae-Yong’s strategy of strengthening the foundry’s ambition which has pledged to “catch up with TSMC,” is also expected to gain a fast pace.

As per industry source, it was firm that Samsung Electronics foundry division has been producing MOSFET products. This is among Infineon power semiconductors in Germany.

An insider from the semiconductor industry said, “Samsung Electronics has been steadily cooperating with Infineon since the launch of its foundry division, and started production of MOSFET, one of the power semiconductors, last year.”

The application of power semiconductors is to convert, control, and distribute power in electronic devices. This would comprise electric vehicles and smartphones intended to extend battery life and simultaneously reduce power usage. This can be majorly classified as discrete and module products.

Particularly, with the arrival of electric vehicles, hybrid cars, and renewable energy, all these led to a rise in demand in the commercial market. Whereby, it generate the significance of power semiconductor such as MOSFETs.

On believing the facts as per by QY Research, the power semiconductor discrete market was worth $352.8000 billion last year. And the same is predicted to grow at a CAGR of 8.2% to achieve $2029.613 billion. Another important aspect of Samsung Electronics and Infineon’s volume orders is the latter leading position in the market.

With respect to the foundry cooperation between the two giants, officials from Samsung Electronics and Infineon Korea said, “We cannot comment specifically on the customer.”
