[Update 1]  Samsung has officially responded to the matter of CPU development. As per the Sammobile report, Samsung says the report of establishing an internal team dedicated to developing CPU cores is not true.

First Published – March 06, 2023:

Samsung is looking to develop its own central processing unit (CPU) core for Galaxy smartphones to reduce reliance on British chip design house ARM Ltd. and improve the optimization level of its devices.

The South Korean tech giant has reportedly prepared the dedicated team for this allotment. The company also recruited a senior developer that was responsible for CPU development at U.S. Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) to lead the team.

“Samsung Electronics will be able to boost completion level of its Galaxy Chip if it successfully develops a CPU core,” said an unnamed industry official. “It will be able to load its own CPU in 2027 if development is carried out as planned.”

Recently at MWC 2023, Park Yong-in, the head of the system LSI business division at Samsung Electronics said in an interview that Samsung Electronics is developing a dedicated application processor (AP) for Galaxy. The company says it will take more than one to two years as Samsung Electronics is preparing its first dedicated AP for Galaxy. On this day, President Park said, “We are preparing well. There will be good news soon.”

The first chip, dubbed Galaxy Chip, could be available in 2025 (Galaxy S25), according to industry sources. The chip, however, will likely be loaded with a CPU based on ARM technology as Samsung Electronics has just initiated development of its own CPU core.
