Samsung Display, Apple and LG Display discussing the supply price of OLED panels for 2024 iPads

According to the latest information, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) for iPad will cost between 2 and 3 times as much as existing OLEDs. In an analysis, it is predicted that the price will inevitably be high due to the use of two layers of OLED light emitting layers combined with high-level technologies like LTPO TFT.

Reportedly, Apple, LG Display, and Samsung Display together discussing the supply price of OLED panels for iPads scheduled to be released next year at around $270 for the 11-inch model and $350 for the 13-inch model. The supply price of OLED panels for existing IT products in the early 10-inch range is around US$100-150.

However, OLED for iPad introduces innovative processes that have yet to be used in other products, such as a two-stack tandem structure, low temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) TFT and a hybrid OLED configuration featuring both a glass substrate and thin film encapsulation.

To recall, the price of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the existing mini light-emitting diode (LED)-liquid crystal display (LCD) model, starts at $1,099. The base price of the regular LCD model 11.0-inch iPad Pro is $799.

Currently, LG Display is developing both 11-inch and 13-inch iPad OLEDs, and Samsung Display is developing only one 11-inch model. Depending on the future situation, there may be changes such as Samsung Display developing both types.

Meanwhile, Samsung Display and others have decided to invest in the 8th generation OLED for next-generation IT, but equipment price negotiations remain.
