Samsung Electronics is reportedly increasing the proportion of Chinese displays that will be used in the upcoming Galaxy devices.

According to Korean media reports, Samsung is considering using Chinese-made panels for its higher-end models. An industry insider said, “Samsung Electronics is currently discussing unofficially with BOE, China’s largest display company, to collaborate on a foldable phone.”

BOE is currently working in the process of producing Samsung Galaxy M54 and Galaxy Watch 6 panels.

This clearly indicates that the Chinese organic light emitting diodes and OLED panels are used for the first time in Samsung’s high-priced premium phones, as well as mid-to-low-priced phones such as the Galaxy A and M and smartwatch.

Considering that it is in the development capability verification stage, we will not increase the proportion of Chinese panels in a short period of time, but it is meaningful in that the trend has changed in the meantime.

There is a possibility that BOE panels will be installed in the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6. Samsung Electronics said, “We cannot disclose the contents of new products,” and said that the relationship with China’s BOE was “part of supply chain diversification.”

The recently launched S23 is significantly different from the part that emphasized the ‘premium’ strategy by mounting Qualcomm’s application processor and AP parts. According to Samsung Display, the latest Galaxy S23 series comes with a newer OLED panel and has improved power efficiency. A new panel uses 13% to 16% lower power to achieve the same level of brightness.

Samsung Display back at CES also shows off some interesting foldable technology – Flex G and Flex S displays. Both displays offer screens that are able to fold twice.

As per the recent leak, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be slightly taller than the Galaxy Z Fold 4. It could measure 158.5 x 128.5 x 6.5mm unfolded and 158.5 x 67.5 x 14.5 – 16mm when folded. It reportedly weighs around 275g.

It may have the same 7.6-inch inner screen as its predecessor. The phone is also said to be IP68 certified for water and dust resistance.
