According to TrendForce’s latest report, in 2023, laptop shipments may decrease by 7.8% year-on-year to 171 million units as compared to the last year’s 24.5% year-on-year to 186 million units.

In Q1 2023, notebook shipments reportedly get a 9.5% decrement count from the previous quarter to 35.1 million units. It is the lowest in 10 years based on the first quarter.

Despite the Covid-19 situation, TrendForce indicates that the pandemic created a major difference in sales. Also, parts shortages amid the COVID-19 situation could impact product shipments.

It is also predicted that the share of laptops produced in Vietnam will reach 10% this year. Due to the trade dispute between the US and China, US PC makers are trying to reduce their dependence on China in the assembly of finished laptop products and the supply chain of components.

Some companies are planning to actively respond to the North American market by increasing notebook production in Mexico. The company is looking for a local partner with the goal of building a laptop manufacturing line targeting Indian consumers. According to the United Nations, India’s population is expected to surpass China’s this year.

Meanwhile, Samsung is gearing up to launch the highly-anticipated Galaxy S23 series. In addition to its latest flagship smartphones, the company will unveil a new range of laptops under the Galaxy Book 3 series during its Galaxy Unpacked event on February 1.
