Android Auto gets draggable seek bar in music apps

Also, there's one more feature that parallelly making its way to Android Auto.

At CES 2023, Google finally disclose the redesigned version of Android Auto for everyone. Concurrently, this update brought WhatsApp calling via Android Auto for users of the latest Pixel and Samsung smartphones. Also, there’s one more feature that parallelly making its way. Notably, it’s getting a draggable seek bar feature in music apps.

It has been a long time since Android Auto has supported multiple music apps. Although, the ability to drag the seek bar forward or backward on a music track or podcast has always been missing. Also, there are some progress bars with some controls in order to skip or restart a track, also that wasn’t that helpful though. While in order to seek music or podcasts, the user must need to pull out the phone and do the needful. While this is the thing that Auto is meant to avoid.

As per the Redditor, u/Stark-23, the recent ‘Coolwalk‘ redesign update for Android Auto come up with a draggable seek bar option for music apps on the platform. But, it is worth noting here that the update isn’t rolling out broadly as of now. While, those who got the feature, the seek bar now appears in music apps. This comprises the very popular Spotify app.

Alternatively, you can easily drag the seek bar to go forward or backward on a music track or a podcast. Also, it is such a simple feature, at the same time, it took Google a healthy amount of time to bring it to Android Auto. Noticeably, even Apple CarPlay doesn’t widely support this feature.
