Samsung Electronics will build P4 and two pilot line in 2023

Samsung Electronics is looking to build pilot lines in new semiconductor fabs and it is expected to be completed at the end of this year. The company has recently shared the plan with a few partners.

The report from TheElec confirms that the South Korean tech giant Samsung is planning to build two pilot lines at the end of this year: P4 in Pyeongtaek and a new semiconductor fab in Taylor, USA.

The whole process scenario consists a new semiconductor fab introducing a front-end process compared to the existing one, so a pilot line that can produce products in advance is absolutely necessary. This includes cases where the number of NAND layers increases or the foundry process evolves from 4nm to 3nm.

Since last year, Samsung Electronics has been promoting the construction of new semiconductor fabs in Pyeongtaek and Taylor, USA. Taylor’s new foundry fab, which costs about $17 billion, is expected to mass-produce advanced system semiconductors in various fields such as 5G, HPC (high performance computing), and AI (artificial intelligence)..

The company has decided to make these fabs work in 2024. In the same matter, Samsung Electronics recently shared a plan to introduce equipment for pilot lines in November and December of this year to some of its partners.
