That might be shocking to read, that Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics’ TV shipments will fall below the Maginot Line next year as well as this year………. well it is forecasted !! Hisense which is China’s multinational major appliance and electronics manufacturer, with its low-end products, is expected to rank third in global TV shipments starting this year.

Trend Force, a market research firm predicted that Samsung Electronics’ annual TV shipments would be 39.7 million units this year and 39.8 million units next year, on the 29th. In the year 2022 LG Electronics will sell 24.85 million units and 24.95 million units next year. This year and next year, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are expected to maintain their No. 1 and No. 2 positions in global TV shipments, respectively.

The Korean tech giant and LG Electronics’ own TV shipments which they have maintained for more than 10 years will collapse this year, though they can be misformatted. Samsung Electronics has maintained more than 40 million TV shipments for 12 years from 2010 to last year, and LG Electronics has maintained more than 25 million TV shipments for 14 years from 2008 to last year.

Samsung Electronics defended its TV shipments from 41.65 million units last year, down 13.2% from the previous year, but fell further by 4.7% this year, falling below 40 million units. LG Electronics recorded 29.13 million TV shipments last year, up 5.8% from the previous year, but fell below 25 million units this year as shipments plummeted 14.7%.

Already in the first half of this year, as Samsung Electronics and others greatly reduced panel orders due to TV inventory expansion, observations were made early that major TV makers’ shipments could collapse this year. In the third quarter of last year, Samsung Electronics’ panel purchases plunged by 53.8% compared to the same period last year. During the same period, LG Electronics decreased by 16.1% and Japan’s Sony by 43.3%. It was all to lower inventory levels.

TrendForce predicted that global TV shipments would decrease by 3.9% year-on-year to 202 million units this year, and fall 1.4% next year to 199 million units next year. Next year, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics’ TV shipments are expected to rise only 0.3% and 0.4% year-on-year, respectively. The TV industry is not doing well.

If we take organic light emitting diode (OLED) TVs out of the TV market forecast for next year. The shipments of 7 million units are expected, up 4.4% from this year. This year, it is 6.7 million units, up 0.5% from the previous year. Samsung Electronics plans to actively sell OLED TVs using Samsung Display’s Quantum Dot (QD)-OLED next year.

The large screen demand in the market can be observed clearly. The ratio of 70-inch or larger TVs in Samsung Electronics’ TVs is expected to approach 15% next year from 11.7% this year. The share of 70-inch or larger TVs in LG Electronics’ TVs is expected to reach 9.5% this year and 13% next year.

TCL can be beaten by a Chinese competitor Hisense as expected to rise to third place. This year Hisense’s TV shipments are expected to increase by 8.0% from the previous year to 23.9 million units. On the other hand, TCL’s TV shipments this year recorded 22.75 million units. A mere 0.6% increase, and are expected to drop to fourth place.

Hisense’s projection for next year’s TV shipments of 23.69 million units is 1.26 million less than LG Electronics’ 24.95 million units. For the upcoming year, Hisense is expected to decrease by 0.9% to 23.69 million units, and TCL is expected to decrease by 1.2% to 22.48 million units. Hisense’s projection for next year’s TV shipments of 23.69 million units is 1.26 million less than LG Electronics’ 24.95 million units.
