Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-Yong attended the completion ceremony of the Vietnam

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Korea-Vietnam diplomatic ties, Lee Jae-Yong Chairman of Samsung Electronics attended the completion ceremony of the Vietnam Samsung R&D Center located in THT District, Hanoi on the 23rd.

The land covers 11,603㎡ area, and the gross floor area is 79,511㎡, Vietnam Samsung R&D Center is the first large-scale comprehensive research institute established by Samsung in Vietnam.

Chairman Lee Jae-Yong visited Vietnam in 2020 to directly inspect the construction site of the R&D center and discussed cooperation plans with President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The event was attended by executives such as Samsung Electronics President Noh Tae-moon and Samsung Display President Choi Ju-Seon. Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Trinh, Ho Chi Minh Political Academy Director Nguyen Xuan Thang. Vietnamese Prime Minister’s Office Minister Trinh Van Sun, Vietnam Science and Technology Minister Phuong Thanh Dat, and Oh Young-Ju Joo. The Korean Ambassador to Vietnam was also present.

Head coach Park Hang-Seo of the Vietnam national soccer team and employees of Samsung Electronics’ major global R&D centers in the US, UK, and India sent a video message congratulating the completion of the Vietnam R&D center.

Samsung plans to nurture Vietnam, which is currently serving as a global production base, into a global strategic base that carries out comprehensive R&D.

Samsung plans to strengthen the expertise of its R&D center in Vietnam by specializing in multimedia information processing wireless communication security, which are core technologies for software for mobile devices.

The Samsung R&D Center in Vietnam is built with 16 floors above ground and 3 floors below the ground and is equipped with various welfare facilities for executives and employees, such as a fitness center, a cafeteria, a rooftop garden, and a space for clubs, in addition to state-of-the-art research facilities.

Chairman Lee Jae-Yong said:

“Vietnam Samsung R&D Center will not only strengthen Vietnam’s industrial competitiveness but also contribute to promoting friendly cooperation between Korea and Vietnam.”

Meanwhile, around the completion ceremony of the Samsung R&D Center, Chairman Jae-Yong Lee visited the Samsung business site near Hanoi, inspected the smartphone and display production plants, checked the business status and mid- to long-term management strategies, and encouraged executives and employees.

Samsung first entered Vietnam in 1989 when it established a Samsung C&T trading office in Hanoi.

Currently, it produces smartphones/mobile devices network equipment TVs display batteries in Ho Chi Minh City, Bac Ninh, and Thai Nguyen.

Samsung is also carrying out various CSR activities in Vietnam. Such as Samsung Hope School, which helps youths learn after school, smart factory support projects for local companies, and training of the national team at the International Skills Olympics.

Samsung is the only foreign company in Vietnam that conducts open recruitment for new employees twice a year. It also operates a ‘Samsung Innovation Campus’ program that provides S/W and employment skill training to Vietnamese young people.
