Samsung starts getting competition in the software update policy

It is the first Android manufacturer to promise four years of Android OS upgrades for its multi-range of smartphones and tablets.

For the last couple of years, Samsung is leading in terms of software and OS update support. Since it was the first Android manufacturer to promise four years of Android OS upgrades for its multi-range of smartphones and tablets. Now, the same move inspires the other makers also. As OnePlus announced a few weeks back that a few of its upcoming devices will be going to receive four Android OS upgrades and security patches for five years. While, Oppo, OnePlus parent company also making the same commitment.

Oppo new Update policy

Noticeably, Oppo has disclosed that its future flagships will tend to receive four major OS updates whereas five years of security updates. Certainly, it sounds pretty much similar to Samsung though it’s actually not. As Samsung promises four years of Android OS updates while Oppo is promising to provide four Color OS updates.

It is to be worth noting that Color OS is Oppo’s equivalent of Samsung’s One UI overlay since it independently receives its own version regardless of Google’s Android. With Oppo’s new updates policy, its flagship devices will receive four Color OS version updates.

Oppo’s promise differs from Samsung

Since Oppo is not committed yet when it comes to updating their Android version. Whereas, it only says that it will bring four updates to its custom software.

Also, Oppo’s existing policy guarantee three Android version updates, thus the new policy means that its devices will get at least three Android version updates along with a new version of Color OS. Thereby whenever it starts to initiate its new policy, Samsung remains the leader in updates.

This is not because it’s not four Android OS updates that are being promised by Oppo. But also the reason that both Oppo and OnePlus are not applying their new policy to any existing devices, are selling in the market. While Samsung committed to supporting Android OS upgrades to some of its existing Galaxy devices that have launched in 2021. Again, its policy implies both mid-range as well as flagship devices.

Samsung’s Update policy is still unmatchable

To conclude the topic, Galaxy phone, and tablet owners are still assured that they receive the best after-sales software support. On the other hand, the makers like Oppo and OnePlus are moving in the right direction by taking inspiration from Samsung. It is still the best choice for those who really care about the updates.
