Samsung chief heading to Vietnam in order to inspect new R&D center

This is intended, in order to celebrate the completion of the company's new research and development center.

Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae Yong is predicted to tour Vietnam by this week. This is intended, in order to celebrate the completion of the company’s new research and development center reported by Industry sources recently. While, as per the source it also being predicted that Samsung’s chief is also likely to hold a meeting with Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Additionally, the ceremony going to be scheduled for Thursday in Hanoi. This is to be held with key officials of the Vietnamese government in attendance. On the other hand, for the purpose of attending the ceremony, Lee canceled his attendance at the weekly trial proceedings for the Samsung C&T-Cheil Industries merger.

Being the largest foreign investor in Vietnam, Samsung kicked off the construction of the $220 million R&D center in March 2020. This center will be in charge of R&D for the company’s mobile devices. It includes smartphones, tablets PCs, software, and hardware products. It gives employment to something 2,000 people that are hired locally.

R&D Center Specification 

The center is built on 11,603 square meters of land, and it is considered to be Samsung’s largest R&D facility in South Asia. Alongside this is 16 story building that consists of three basement floors. It comprises a total floor area of 79,511 square meters.

Notably, Lee’s trip to Vietnam comes after two years. The last time he visited to inspect the center’s construction was in 2020. While during the trip, Lee also visited local worksites for Samsung Electronics and Samsung Display. At the same time, he also met Phuc, who was the prime minister at that time.

Meanwhile, Lee also traveled to the United Arab Emirates at the start of this month. Whereby, he inspected the Samsung C&T construction site of new nuclear power plants. He also met with the kingdom’s de facto ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
