Samsung Display void LG Display’s OLED patent

It was revoked by the Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board in June. 

SFC came into existence with the joint venture or merger between Samsung Display and Japanese chemical firm Hodogaya. The same has succeeded in repealing a patent in regards to deuterium used in OLED in South Korea.

While the patent that is taken into doubt is co-owned by LG Display and Material Science. It was revoked by the Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board in June. Also, SFC had approached and filed a request to the board for the patent (known as 2277303). It shows the concern related to organic field effect emitting devices, which would be canceled in January

It is to be worth noting, the patent deals with deuterium, one of the two isotopes of hydrogen. And a material used in order to expand the life of OLED devices. Also, the statement of LG Display, said last year, that it plans to apply deuterium technology. It includes all its large OLED panels that going to start this year.

Noticeably, the company even carries a brand which is known as OLED.EX. It is an OLED panel with 30% enhanced brightness, here credit goes to the use of deuterium.

Although, a family patent of 2277303 is called 2136806. The same has also been related to deuterium and is still registered. While the patent’s owners are LG Display and Material Science, this is registered back in July 2020. On the other hand, LG Display had already filed a patent that was canceled in South Korea in the US and China.
