Google redesign substantially simplifies Collections homepage

Notably, Collections is Google's integrated bookmarking feature that surfaces save from Search, Discover, and Maps.

Earlier we have seen that Google is no longer developing “Assistant Memory” and the Collection feature that it would apparently replace is now going through a redesign.

Notably, Collections is Google’s integrated bookmarking feature that surfaces save from Search, Discover, and Maps. This was last updated in September to marginally become more automated.

While the recent redesign substantially simplifies Google Collections. It starts with an “All saved items” card that shows six saves. Whereas, tapping at the bottom of the button will take you to a grid. It notes what Collection or Maps list, in regards to showing a cover image, name, rating, and URL.

While back on the main screen, the other visible thing here is just a grid of “Your collections.” Since it shows four by default and which can expand further by scrolling through more.

Google redesign is much simpler as compared to the 2021 versions

At the same time, it is faster to “Create” a new collection, here thanks to the FAB that allows you to “Create collection from” a Link, all saved items, or Blank. While the middle option depicts all your items and enables you to select them in order to start a new board.

Moreover, the redesign is much simpler as compared to the 2021 versions. Whereby, Google highlighted every detail from “Shows & movies” to “Shopping” and “Recipes.” Also, there was a heavy focus on the recommendations that are based on your browsing activity. It included spotlight price drops and things to “Keep researching.”

In contrast, with “Assistant Memory” depreciating, the probability of Collections sticking around tends to grow. Since with all previous iterations, Collection still lags behind the native experience. And hence feel sluggish at times. Also, if Google is serious about keeping this capability, then it should be entirely rebuilt with various UI redesigns. One of the aspects of the new redesign of Google Collections is to broadly roll out on Android, iOS, and the web. And that offers the most smooth experience.
