Corning has introduced a new smartphone with tempered glass. While included in the list is the Gorilla Glass Victus 2. This new product is part of the latest smartphone changes with a larger screen and increased weight. These features provide greater durability in regards to falling to concrete. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 will be going applied for the first time to Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series. Notably, this flagship is supposed to launch early next year.
“Gorilla Glass Victus 2 has enhanced its durability against concrete drops with a new glass composition,” said Kim Joo-sik, president of Corning Gorilla Glass Korea, at an online product briefing on the 1st, “Compared to four years ago, it is 15% heavier in weight and has secured durability so that it can be applied to smartphones with 10% larger screens.”
In addition to this info, also noted that smartphones have increased in weight which is nearly 200 grams, this is due to the expansion of battery capacity. Corning mainly came into existence in the first generation Gorilla Victus model that was launched in 2020. The same has started with Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. This is intended in order to withstand scratches and falls on the surfaces such as asphalt. Also, this time additional resistance to concrete surface drop is also added.
“The new product maintains the same scratch resistance as the Gorilla Glass Victus first-generation model while enhancing the fall resistance on rough surfaces such as concrete,” Kim explained.
Furthermore, In Corning’s tempered glass front drop test, simulated a concrete floor (80-grit sandpaper). Here, the 200-gram Gorilla Glass Victus 2 did not break in the event of dropping from a height of one meter. While, on the other side, a competitor’s aluminosilicate tempered glass product weighing 165 grams was damaged. On dropped it from a height which is less than 0.5 meters.
This new product is predicted to debut for the first time in Samsung Galaxy S23 series flagship coming early next year. While Corning’s motive is to come Gorilla Glass Victus 2 to more than 10 smartphone models next year respectively. Recently, it has been observed that many customers from mid to high-end smartphones are considering in order to opt for Gorilla Glass Victus.
