According to the latest report from Counterpoint Research, Apple surpasses Samsung to take the top spot in the global smartphone market in October 2022. A total of 105.68 million units was shipped globally, down 11 percent from the same period in 2021.
Country Sales
China
- 20.42 million smartphones were sold in October
- Down 4 percent from the previous month and 15 percent from the same period of last year.
The United States
- In the US the sales performed better result in October, with sales growing 14 percent from a year before to reach 14.45 million units.
Europe
- Europe’s smartphone sales in October were 12.01 million units, down 20 percent from the same period of 2021.
The iPhone maker Apple was the only smartphone maker whose October sales increased month over month. It recorded the 25 percent highest market share in China, overtaking Samsung Electronics to become the No. 1 player in the global smartphone market. The iPhone 14 series sold 26.09 million units in the two months since its release.
In terms of devices, the iPhone 14 Pro Max and the iPhone 14 Pro placed first and second in global sales in October. While Samsung Electronics focused on premium phone sales and profitability, China’s Oppo and Vivo saw their sales decline for four consecutive months.
