Intel gives collision Samsung, the vision to be the world’s second-biggest chip maker

Samsung faces more competition as intel enters the contract chip manufacturing space, as Samsung leads to the second-biggest contract chip manufacturing organization. While the company is already investing hundreds of billions of dollars in the sense to take over its primary rival, TSMC. Now Intel also tends to place itself in the field of battle.

Intel builds as a separate firm with a broad vision to take over Samsung’s chip manufacturing business to become the world’s second-biggest chip manufacturing firm by 2030. Last year company decided to make chips for others despite struggling for years to make 10nm and 7nm chips. Last year, Intel Foundry Services (IFS) announced that it would invest $20 billion to expand its foundry operations in Arizona, US, and a total of $70 billion internationally.

Though the least investment as compared to Samsung and TSMC has spared hundreds of billions of dollars, intel planned that exactly not reached yet. And Samsung and TSMC have already started production of 3nm chips.

The current geopolitical situation could help Intel, but it has to prove its fabrication technology first

President of Intel Foundry Services, Randhir Thakur convinced in an interview with Nikkei Asia.

Our ambition is to be the No. 2 foundry in the world by the end of the decade, and [we] expect to generate leading foundry margins.

As we have engaged with foundry customers since launching IFS, it has become abundantly clear that many of these companies see the need for a more resilient and geographically balanced semiconductor supply chain.

The company recently announced about it obtained Tower Semiconductor that is an Israeli foundry firm that has its factory in Japan. While taking the comparison Asia has a low cost of manufacturing than the chips in Europe and North America, but the thing that is much more favorable is the geopolitical situation.

Intel plans to make 1.8nm chips by 2025

The intel is planning is make 18-angstrom (1.8nm) process. But it cannot be stamped until shows off actual chips based on those process nodes. Although it has gained some orders from Amazon’s AWS, MediaTek, and Qualcomm, then also it directly seems a measure of the long journey to take over Samsung.
