Breaking: Most of Galaxy S23 APs will use Qualcomm chips, 5nm Exynos 2300 coming instead of 4nm

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S23 Series launch is around the corner. The renders, specifications, and Geekbench scores are already out. Now, as per the latest report, most of the application processors (APs) will be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 2nd generation.

Samsung Electronics’ own AP, the Exynos 2300 (tentative name), is expected to enter mid-to-low-end smartphones, not flagship products.

In this regard, Samsung Electronics has started producing Exynos with the so-called ‘two-track strategy’ by dividing it into 5 nano and 4 nano.

An industry official familiar with this issue said, “Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Division is producing the next Exynos (tentatively called Exynos 2300) with 5 nm instead of 4 nm due to yield problems. There is no choice but to show a big difference in terms of performance and generational products, so in the end, Samsung Electronics’ MX division decided to use Snapdragon as the main AP for the next flagship smartphone.”

The company along with the MX division are looking forward for the Exynos and Snapdragon in parallel depending on the market.

However, as the Galaxy S22 series released this year became embroiled in the ‘Game Optimization Service (GOS)’ incident, the Exynos performance controversy began in earnest. In the end, it seems that most of the Qualcomm Snapdragon will be installed in the next Galaxy S23, unlike the past, which was applied differently by region.

Earlier it was reported that Qualcomm, which accounted for 70% of the Galaxy S22, is highly likely to become the only supplier for the S23. The Galaxy S23 will not adopt Exynos because the Exynos 2300 we made does not compete with Snapdragon.”

The latest report from Omdia, the sales of the 3nm or less process this year are expected to be $3.9 billion. By 2025, this figure is expected to increase eightfold to $30.7 billion. Although Samsung Electronics is currently fighting a hard battle in the 4~5nm process, it means that how to implement the 3nm or less process stabilization is more important.
