Samsung phone market share in South Korea fell below 60% for the first time

Samsung phone market share declined below 60 percent

A new report from South Korea, “Asia Daily” stated that the iPhone’s share in the Korean smartphone market continued to increase, from 27.28% in June to 34.1% in September 2022.

The South Korean tech firm, Samsung’s market share declined and it dropped from 66.11% in June to 63.98% in July and 59.47% in August. The situation still continues and it arrived at 58.38% in September 2022. This is first time the market share fell below 60%.

Apart from Samsung, the market share of iPhone maker Apple is growing. Last year, due to LG Electronics’ announcement to close its mobile phone business, Apple’s market share in South Korea exceeded 20%.

Why Samsung Share Declined?

The possible reason is the issue with the Samsung Game Optimization Service (GOS) which slowed down the running speed of some of its devices, causing controversy.

The new report also predicted that Apple’s market share is expected to further increase in the fourth quarter, driven by the launch of the iPhone 14 series. Apple has opened four Apple Stores in South Korea.
