Samsung being the master of innovation always used to come up with various innovations with every of its new launch. And the features which are being introduced now by certain manufacturers are launched by Samsung a long time back. And one of these examples is Always On Display (AOD). Notably, Samsung used to provide this feature in its Galaxy smartphones moons ago.
Now reportedly, the newly launched Apple iPhone 14 series follow the same. They might find it as a better implementation which remains pending for a long time. However, it has been found that the AOD quite draining the phone battery. Although, it’s not easy to avoid the craving to turn it off altogether. Especially the Galaxy devices with low battery mAh drains quickly. And make you panic sometimes in order to charge it again and again. This includes models with small batteries like Galaxy Z Flip 3/4 or the base Galaxy S22 model.
But if really like this feature and don’t want to turn it off. Well, the fact that it drains the battery is true enough for many years. But thanks to Samsung that it resolves the battery draining problem from its One UI versions 4. x onwards. Now, while using this setting that turns it on only when you have some new notifications. And that sort of works like a replacement for the old LED notification light Samsung phones used to have earlier.
Steps to set Always On Display on your Samsung phone
Now if you’re rid of the notifications that used to come at every single minute of the day. Then this particular setting everyone must try out. Now the ways to set AOD to turn on only for only new notifications are as follows:
- Open the Settings app
- Select Lock screen
- Tap Always On Display
- Then select the Show for new notifications option
Now after you activate the setting all the way mentioned above. Then it makes your screen to lit up as long as there’s a new notification that you haven’t come across. Once you checked or cleared from the notification shade. And in this way you are able to save your battery as compared to having AOD turned off all day. While if in case it still using more battery then the option to show AOD only when the screen is tapped or scheduled to show a limited time. And that’s a better middle way altogether.

Pin to AOD
- Pin text and images you wish to remember to the AOD screen. The pinned memo can be easily viewed and deleted.
- You can pin a memo to the AOD screen by double-tapping the pin icon. You can also store the memos in the Samsung Notes app directly from the ‘Always On Display screen.
