When it comes to updates and security patch releases then Samsung is way ahead compared to other phone manufacturers. The South Korean giant also rolling out a few periodic security updates for their older devices in regards to covering those that are no longer upgradable to new Android versions.

As committed to giving four generations of Android operating system upgrades as well as five years of security updates to the major of its range. Although, this is not the scenario a few years back when Samsung only release two major Android upgrades whereas three years of security updates. It leads the other OEMs as they also provide five years of security updates. Now the company provides excellent software support leading other Android OEMs way behind.

At this point, Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8 are almost six years old from now. Certainly, they are not on the list of new update policies. Although, to keep in mind the same Samsung is now rolling out an important update for these discontinued devices.

More discontinued range to get the update

The same we have already seen in the past as well. When any important updates are sent out, update even those devices that are well beyond their software support deadlines. And that’s the reason why the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8 are now receiving this update.

Reportedly, both Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are receiving an update with firmware version G93xFXXU8EVG3 respectively. To bring into knowledge both of these handsets were last updated back in November 2020 when they hit their deadline. At the same time, the Galaxy S8 series was also receiving an update with the firmware version G95xFXXUCDVG4. The last official update of the same was released back in April 2021.

Through this update, both of these got their GPS fix. Moreover, this issue was sufficient enough to need a new update for the discontinued devices. Notably, recently, the company already released a similar GPS fix update for the mid-range Galaxy J7. And the same got outdated seven years ago back in 2015. In this regard, Samsung users don’t need to worry as the company also taking care of their old users in this regard.

As per GalaxyClub notes, Samsung seems to be preparing similar updates for more older models. Including the 2015 flagship Galaxy S6 series as well as the Galaxy S9. There may be many units still in use which is why Samsung feels compelled to address this GPS issue on such old devices.

As per GalaxyClub notes, it has been seeming that Samsung has put their sleeves over to bring update the similar older device. While taking the flagship Galaxy S6 series as well as Galaxy S9 also into consideration. And one of the obvious reasons to do so is that these Samsung devices feel pushed to address these GPS issues.
