Samsung cuts 4Gb DDR4 chip prices, Is it true?

A trusted Media source, DIGITIMES, claimed in a report that, the South Korean tech firm, Samsung cuts the price of its 4Gb DDR4 chips, the logic behind is to fast-track the industry’s changeover from DDR3 to DDR4.

The company is rapidly jumping for DDR3 chip production and lowering the DDR4 chip prices to send out most of it for consumer electronics, the sources said.

The keynote to remember is that DDR4 chip prices are reducing, so the DDR3 memory suppliers may also lower their offers to maintain orders.

As such back in July this year, deal prices for 4Gb DDR4 memory have fallen by about 8%, unfortunately, the price cuts by major suppliers are “unreasonable” from a manufacturing cost perspective. In the Q3 2022, consumer-grade DRAM prices may fall by 15%, note that this is all about the prediction, we need to wait for an official response.

Furthermore, by phasing out DDR3 production, Samsung and SK Hynix accelerated the transition from old production lines to new ones and expanded their DDR5 chip production.

To recall, Samsung launched its first 24Gbps GDDR6 DRAM in its Electronics department. This is the industry’s first 16-gigabit (Gb) Graphics Double Data Rate 6 (GDDR6) DRAM featuring 24-gigabit-per-second (Gbps) processing speeds. It was made on the Samsung’s third-generation 10-nanometer-class (1z)1 process using extreme ultraviolet (EUV) technology.
