Counterpoint: Foldable phone shipments will reach 16 million units in 2022, 26 million units in 2023

According to the latest Counterpoint Research, foldable phones are still the fastest growing smartphone product category this year. The tablet-looking folding smartphones are changing the useability of the era. A report claimed, that in 2022, folding screens will increase by 73% year-on-year to 16 million units.

Talking about foldable phones, Samsung is the leader with a 62% share of the folding screen mobile phone market in the first half of this year. Samsung has recently launched its two new foldable phones the Galaxy Fold 4 and Flip 4 models with new capabilities.

With the launch of these two new foldable phones, the percentage is said to jump 80% in the second half of the year. Counterpoint Research forecast data shows that this year, the global folding screen smartphone market will increase by 73% from 9 million last year to 16 million.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes with a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate, is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, and comes in three storage variants. All three variants have 12GB RAM but you can choose between 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB internal storage.

By 2023 the business of foldable phones will grow 26 million units. In June 2022, Samsung captured the main market share of folding screen smartphones in the first half of 2022, accounting for 62% of the total market share; Huawei and OPPO ranked second and third respectively.
