Now, as per the new report, Samsung Electronics said in a statement today that the company’s vice chairman Lee Jae-yong met with Intel CEO Patrick Gelsinger, who was visiting South Korea.
The two business leaders discussed collaboration in various fields including next-generation memory, foundry, PC and mobile devices.
Samsung’s semiconductor business revenue of $82.3 billion in 2021 surpasses Intel’s $79 billion. A year ago Intel announced its return to the chipmaking business, an industry led by Taiwan’s TSMC and South Korea’s Samsung Electronics.
Intel exited the foundry business in 2018. Since its comeback, Intel has poured a combined tens of billions of dollars into regaining its edge in chip technology, including its latest $3 billion pledge to expand its Oregon chip factory in April.
Compared with Intel, Samsung is known for being able to contract to produce more advanced and thinner logic chips. Meanwhile, Samsung and Intel have always been partners, as Samsung’s memory chip modules and Intel’s processors are often housed on the same motherboard.
